I did a 3 random horror games vid, and yours was my favorite. Great atmosphere and good job with the monsters. They scared me a couple times. Yours starts at 14:26.
Very fun short horror game. I liked the mechanics of shining a light to prevent the monster from attacking. I do wish the monster had more places to hide. For a spider why not have it crawling on the ceiling or the walls? The story is short and to the point while still created a decent mysterious background. Overall, the game was fun and I hope to see more from you in the future.
It's been a while since I've had a good spook. When this game got going, it really got going, I felt uneasy for much of the gameplay. Great game and job well done on making a truly unnerving game. I will link my gameplay below if you are interested in my reaction.
Thanks for playing - I love your little sound effect edits!
I could tell by your expression that you might've been miffed at how anti-climactic the ending was - and we're not satisfied with it either. If you curious about how the final sequence was supposed to play out, I wrote about it in one of our last dev logs.
I really enjoyed the parts of the game I played, but the lack of saves and the ability to die really took the experience down a bit for me, especially because I felt like I was 'cornered' into my death. I'm gonna wait a few weeks before I end up trying again, but I'm gonna come back to it again for sure.
Hi! Thanks for replying. I think that would help a lot, or even a save point with every note read. I had made it into the basement and read note 4/4, and when I turned around the monster was scuttling thru the curtain and I just didn't have the room to do anything before I got got. The flashlight didn't seem to affect him that time around either? Or at least not long enough before he got me.
Unfortunately, adding the checkpoint didn't make it into the latest build. The work required for the feature turned out to be pretty significant, and it was delaying the update.
We're already so far past Halloween, so it's unlikely that we'll have another update to include it. That said, if we do have another update, it'll be the first thing we add!
This game nails atmospherics and subtlety. No lie, I was basically in a constant state of alert (and still got surprised a couple of times.)
My only ask/idea, if you were to make any changes, would be to scale up the amount of time you need to keep the flashlight on the creature based on the number of encounters you have with it.
Still a great showing for a jam-turned-beta game - awesome work all!
Wow, thanks! That's excellent feedback. I'm thinking that we'll definitely want to create a time window where you need to keep the light on the monster, and we should at least look into adding some sort of threat escalation mechanic.
After watching through your video, I think we should probably add some better environmental hints for the you-know-what. We don't want people to have to run around like you did!
Hello, I played this game and I really enjoyed it, the environment, sound effects were all pretty good, I liked the monster mechanic it was neat, also I really like the way we read the notes and opening drawers its a very nice detail, I liked it, great work :)
I noticed a low frame rate issue, which we never encountered during testing.
Could that be your recording software? Or was our game running slow? If it's running slow, would you mind sharing your specs so we could troubleshoot the issue?

Felt alone, until I wasn't. Creepy, thanks!
That's what we were going for! 👌

Crawling on the walls and ceiling was unfortunately left on the cutting-room floor, but we might add it if we ever do an update!
An interesting game. We had a lot of fun testing it.
Thanks for playing!

I've never been more scared of playing an Indie game until I played this. Loved it 100%
Thanks for playing!

Those ending comments made me blush haha.

Hi Kiracles!
We're sorry that you were taken out of the experience! We hope the next update will resolve any issues you're experiencing.
We've been tossing around the idea of respawning the player in the Study, right after sundown. Do you think this would've made it less frustrating?

Ah, yeah - there appears to be a bug in the last release where the flashlight is inconsistent at close range.
I think the raycast is getting blocked by your head when you look down, or it might be starting too far in front of your face.
We hope to update with a fix very soon!
Awesome! Glad to hear it! :) I'm looking forward to the update!

Oh my, it looks like you experienced a bug with the inventory, which lets you re-read the notes. Sorry about that!
It'll be fixed in the next update!

😁 yeah, I'm fairly oblivious. Appreciate you taking the time to respond!
Haha, don't blame yourself - I believe good game design clearly presents everything the player needs, as they need it.
hi, big thx for the game. greetings from rosti 😀
Thanks for playing!
