It looks like our Wwise plugin opens a port for debugging telemetry, but doesn't actually use it. Windows firewall will do an alert for any open port, even if nothing is sent or received.
In other words - it doesn't need to access the internet, but a setting on our audio plugin makes it look like it does!
I tried to point this out in the download instructions, under the troubleshooting drop down, but I realize that people might not look there.
We have a fix for the setting, but we haven't published an update yet.
Loved this game! The mixed style is so interesting and made for an added element of the game to me. Sound design was also absolutely great and I felt like I had something crawling on my or near me the whole time. I can't wait to see more!
what up familia my names isak , i recently played your game, it was quite interesting, i had a lot fun playing it. I really liked the switching from 3D to Hand drawn art style this was a nice touch to it! the story was quite interesting. the game did spook me a little bit. it was a fun short horror game. keep up the good work!
yea i think i might change my opinion on my previous statement, having accessibility there is important being that the play area isnt a big map so i can see why you guys made the monster not that persistent in the chase to hunt us down. also maybe i just need glasses lol, but i read it as 14 haha. keep up the amazing work familia!
I really like the hand drawn art style, the art style almost got me killed by the monster too! Trap chan! Awesome game and story, wonder if my analysis was on point?
We love seeing how people choose to interpret the story, and I don't want to ruin the fun by giving too much away. :)
There's some content we'd like to add that elaborates a little more on what's going on, so you might find some answers when/if we add that in the future!
Accidentally found a bug where if you are inspecting the letter after starting the game and then click the bottom right arrow to go back, but during that transition you press Escape and go back to the Main Menu, the screen will be permanently black (though the game will still work). 🧐
A fantastically creepy, unsettlingly disturbing, and surprisingly enjoyable short horror game! I was sat on the edge of my seat practically the entire game and had one helluva spooky fun time!
Honestly, I have no critique to add about either the story, art, monster or etc. that you haven't surely already heard before. Your team did an amazing job. I'm just glad you all decided to extend the story/gameplay further beyond the game jam!
I'm really glad I don't have arachnophobia XDDD This game was really good even though I didn't read the notes LOL In all seriousness I hope everyone enjoys the video and keep up the great work!
I had an absolute blast playing this game! The atmosphere was very creepy! The creature's creation and mechanics were very well executed! I'm very happy to have played this game! Keep up the good work! :)
I was worried that players would speed through the letter reading after dying while looking at something else. I really want to change that now!
Also, you're right that monster clipped through the sink due to a difference in physics rules - the player uses physics, and the monster uses something called a "NavMesh". The sink must not be marked as an obstacle for it to navigate around - definitely something to fix in a future update.
That was awesome! Great story, atmosphere, scares (the monster and the painting!!!) and beautiful artwork! Here's my little playthrough (Polish language). Thank you for the experience! Cheers!
This game was a lot of fun, and it got me good, I jumped in my seat the first time I saw the monster. Good job with the cosmic horror theme, you created a good atmosphere. I would have just made the house a little more believable, you know, put more windows, more closed rooms, and stuff, it is supposed to be a manor after all.
This game really did get me, it was legitimately scary and the sound of the creature clawing toward me created such a freaky atmosphere. I think the house could have been larger and the story could be expanded on even further. Great for a short game, but if you keep working on it and expand it I'd love to see it! Also added it to my playlist here
WOW. This was freaking AWESOME. It was short but oh so rewarding. You guys are amazing because you didn't rely on the crutch that like every horror game creator relies on now. The Jumpscare. There were no real jumpscares here, it relied solely on atmosphere and creature design and it was fantastic.
Very spooky and scary experience overall! This was a good game, and it was very mellow made. The environment was unsettling, and it just has that horror aspect that I feel like you hit right on for me. Good game dev!
I absolutely love the comic style cutscenes. The atmosphere you were able to create is also very impressive considering the graphics style. My only complaint is that the monster didn't really present any real threat. It was still creepy every time I saw it, but after the first few times it was just kinda eh, point light and carry on. I also mistakenly called it a demo at the beginning of my video, I guess that's just a habit from other itch.io games.
I agree that the monster can be a bit of a pushover once you figure it out. But that's actually by design! We wanted the monster to be more of a constant pressure than a real, challenging threat.
That might change if you didn't have always have a flashlight - which might happen if we expand the world and story in a future update. ;)
I'd love to support it officially, but unfortunately, I'm not comfortable publishing something that I can't test thoroughly - and I don't currently have a Linux machine.
That said, I could just publish a Linux build with a disclaimer. That way, Linux user's wouldn't have to jump through so many hoops to play it.
Thanks great developer. Keep it up! I really liked you art(games are arts to me). Thanks to share us your good concept. I love psychological horror stories. That is fancy and intelligent. California is pretty cool, I heard about. :D
If you want you may this step by step for your public. It's would be a explaitation before someone asks:"Do you have some that game in linux version to run this game?" Freewill, you may put that video in your explain. I wish to appreciate more art pieces from you. Might I record some others as soon as possible. Thanks. ;) I really appreciated that game. Sorry by poor english mine. <3
I haven't any trouble to plays windows game. But I have some issues in "Linux" version, Mr. Michael. Why? Some devs ask to me. I reply: "Because Linux is a generic OS kernels. It has been happened that I dowloading a "linux" version and it does not runs. Once that linux version it doesn't my distro( file.deb) and those are other else( file.rmp to Red Hat Linux or Arch Linux and other else). So when I'll get a game I see "Linux" version or "windows" version, I prefer downloads the Windows version, at 98% runs through out Wine application. If you would like to do for linux, try especify what linux flavor(or distro) is. For me is good Windows version, I don't complain, buddy Michael, to download Windows version. Because it I record that video before someone comes to ask a "linux" version. Do not need a Linux version. It is wonderful running at linux, just the player knows install winehq and runs through that application. Here is page if you want redirect for linux users to install: < https://www.winehq.org/ > Its free to ware like Linux as well. Nice to meet you. I'm glad either to know you liked this explanation "how runs windows games(and application) within linux. :D <3

Great little game with with a creepy mystery and I love the cult stuff!

That thing scared the absolute hell outta me and I didnt even get a good look at first. Well done with the atmosphere and sounds!
Thanks for playing!
You missed the usual "first glance" at the hallway corner, but got it instead at the bottom of the stairs - which is way creepier!
Oh really?? I'll have to go back and play..yes the unusual sighting only built up the tension if anything!
Loved this game! The mixed style is so interesting and made for an added element of the game to me. Sound design was also absolutely great and I felt like I had something crawling on my or near me the whole time. I can't wait to see more!
Those were some of the best reactions I've seen! Thanks for playing!
LOL glad my screams brought you joy! Absolutely, thank you for such a wonderful game <3

Thanks for the critical feedback in your video!
The monster could use a power-up, but we kept him on the less-aggressive side because one of our main goals was accessibility.
I'm curious if other people are getting confused by the letter-count UI. It looks like you read the "/4" as "14"?
yea i think i might change my opinion on my previous statement, having accessibility there is important being that the play area isnt a big map so i can see why you guys made the monster not that persistent in the chase to hunt us down. also maybe i just need glasses lol, but i read it as 14 haha. keep up the amazing work familia!

My pleasure.

Sorry if the text is hard to understand for non-native english speakers!
It wasn't, I was just translating it on the go for my viewers :) Sometimes it was hard to read because of the handwriting.
I'm happy to hear that!
The handwriting can definitely be made clearer.
This game really made me jump and it was such a fun experience!!! I love it

Thanks for the honest feedback!
We'd love to expand the game like this, but it's a matter of scope, time, and money. Hopefully, we'll be able to do that in another major update. :)
I think the Spider Crab just wants a friend.

That's great to hear - it's what we were going for!
We had a fun time with this one!
It's interesting to hear what it's like to play with another person in the room!
Unfortunately, it looks like you ended up with an outdated version. due to a mistake on my part. Sorry about that!
Really cool game with nice artstyle and unnerving atmosphere!
Thanks for playing!

Thanks for the kind words - I love that moment in your intro!
That fade-out time should probably be just a tad faster... 🤔
NEW GAMEPLAY MUST WATCH!!!
Glad you liked it!
